Airline Food Coping Strategies
One of the main complaints I hear from folks who fly frequently concerns the meals that the airlines provide, or more often, don't provide. Here are some strategies to help you cope with this frustrating aspect of flying.
If you want a special meal, it is imperative that you request the special meal with your reservation or call the airline at least 24 hours before you fly to order the meal. Some airline sites will allow you to order special-diet meals online.
Then you need to follow through...
Reconfirm it with the airlines reservations folks 24-48 hours before your departure.
At Check-in, ask if your special meal request is in the computer.
On the plane, prior to takeoff, as soon as you can get the attention of a cabin attendant, give him/her a note with your meal preference, name, and seat number and ask if your meal was loaded on the plane.
If you are concerned about the quality and/or quantity of the meals or snacks provided on your flight, bring your own food. Energy bars, breakfast bars, dried fruit, fresh fruit, cheese and cracker packets, or peanut butter and cracker packets are all good emergency rations.
Some folks prefer to eat in the airport prior to getting settled on the airplane. Many airports now require that restaurants or fast-food vendors charge only what they would at their other locales.
Remember to ask for a bottle of water if you decide to drink any alcoholic or caffeine loaded beverage. Drinking water right away will help you avoid dehydration.
