Bathless Rooms Will Save You Money
If you truly want to save a lot of money on a trip, look for facilities that have rooms without private bathrooms. Although not for everyone, accommodations with private bathrooms can cost you much more than one that has bathless rooms. Even New York City has bathless rooms!
In Italy, an inn or hotel with rooms that don't have private rooms are categorized as "second class Pension" and are limited by law as to what they can charge you.
When you are searching, use the following terms in your search along with your preferred destination:
B & B or bed and breakfast - generally used for American establishments, but the term is becoming an international one.
canal-house hotel - this is another international term.
hostel - inexpensive hostels are available all over the world.
pension hotel - these inns and hotels are primarily found in European countries.
ryokan - means "budget inn" in Japanese.
locanda - lots of charming Italian establishments.
bathless - be sure to include the locale where you want to stay.
