CCC Camp Journey
Put a little bit of US history into your next trip by visiting an old CCC camp!
In the mid-1930īs, a federal works project, The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was started to help young men find jobs. Visiting the sites of old CCC camps scattered throughout the nation is a great lesson in U.S. history. Hopefully, you can find one near you.

CCC Information
The CCC recruited men aged 18-25.
They had to be unmarried, unemployed, and from families on relief.
Their initial enrollment was for 6 months, but it could be extended to 4 years.
They wore uniforms as they built public facilities, built roads and strung telephone lines, planted nearly 3 billion trees, worked in National Parks building trails and clearing brush, and fought wildfires. The enrollees performed over 100 different types of work.
They earned $30 per month. $25 was sent to their families.
Over 2,650 camps were established in all states and in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
