Make an Easter candle or obtain a large white candle and decorate with color or with symbols of New Life, Hope, Christ, and Spring.
A Sampling of Sacrifices
Palm Sunday brings us within sight of journey’s end. We carry our palm leaves home and display them.
With great ceremony, display a palm or a portion of a palm in each room of the house. Tuck them behind pictures, mount them over mirrors, stick one on the refrigerator door. Each time you put up a piece of palm say, Let us remember that Jesus has defeated our worst enemies - sin and death! Amen.
Discuss the significance of bright colored fresh looking clothing for Easter and also prudence in buying so that others may have a share. Use this prayer of blessing: God our Father and Creator, it is you who give us all good gifts, and you who bring us the sense of joy and freshness at something new. Bless these clothes of ours that are new. We wear them in joy and with a feeling of celebration at the resurrection of your son. Help us always to remember those who have less than we do, those who need our sharing and our love, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Use a palm as a centerpiece for your table this week. Shop together for an Easter Lily.
Make your own woven basket out of palm or construction paper strips. Add some grass and eggs, and give on Easter Sunday to a friend, neighbor or shut-in.
Have a Family Seder Meal one night this week or attend a parish Seder Meal Experience on Holy Thursday.
Silently, wash one another's feet. Start by reading John 13:2-17. Share what it felt like. Which did you like most, to wash or to be washed? Read Luke 7:36-50.
Good Friday is the most solemn day in the year. As close to 3:00 pm as possible, pray the Lord’s Prayer.
