A Sampling of Celebrations
Bake or buy some special Easter bread. Serve it during the days after Easter.
A garden, whether in a pot or a plot, can act as a lasting symbol of spring and the Easter season. It can act as a constant reminder of new beginnings. After the ground has been prepared and the seeds planted, say this prayer while the garden is being watered for the first time: Lord God, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all living things, please bless this ground that has been so carefully and lovingly prepared. Bless the seeds we have planted, that they will bring forth a plentiful crop. Bless the sun and water you provide to us, so our crop can be nourished. Bless our labor that we may continue to learn and grow through this experience. Amen.
One of the favorite Easter stories is that of Jesus on the shore, cooking breakfast and calling out to his friends to join him. You could relive that first Easter morning with such a breakfast. Fish, bread and something to drink; fish crackers, or biscuits cut into the shape of fish would also be appropriate. Before the meal begins, read John 21:1-14. During the meal, share some ideas about the ways Jesus is with us. Sometimes we don’t recognize him - in some unexpected visitor, in the smile of a stranger, or in a call within you to do something that you normally wouldn’t do. We can begin to see the spirit of Jesus in the quite ordinary events of our lives.
Easter Monday is the traditional day to visit or call grandparents.
